This mahogany coffee table offers simplicity through clean lines and mortise and tenon joinery. The top and legs are made from a beautiful Honduras mahogany slab and the bottom shelf is made of laminated guanacaste (Elephant Ear tree) planks.
The drawers are constructed of reclaimed mahogany with frames impeccably crafted from bird’s-eye maple with a spectacular active grain. The drawer carcass, made of white oak, hold three drawers on either side of the table. Beautifully handcrafted rectangular pulls add details to the drawers making this piece a true work of art.
Round plugs or Green and Green’s square ebony plugs are common in fine woodworking but Fibonacci pentagons have never been created before. The custom made plugs give an amazing attribute to craftsmanship. Finished proud, they are fashioned with a handmade die. The plug recess is formed with a handmade hollow chisel mortise.
The entire table was hand rubbed with several coats of penetrating oil finish. This mixture allows the table to patina naturally, allowing the wood to "breathe", maximizing the natural color, grain patterns and luster within.
Final two coats of durable wax finish were hand rubbed as well, keeping the true colors of the wood and providing the ability for simple care. This coffee table is a great addition to any style of living room space.
